Community invited to Williston Economic Development Summit May 6
Williston Economic Development (WED) will host its 2021 Summit on Thursday, May 6 at the Eleven Restaurant and Lounge. The event will feature important topics for northwestern North Dakota residents such as unmanned aerial systems, the development of Williston Square, advances in the oil and gas industry and much more.
The WED Summit is free and open to the public; however, registration is advised as space is limited. Visit WED’s website to register today! If you are unable to participate in person, you can watch the livestream via WED’s Facebook page.
The doors will open at 8 a.m. with a free continental breakfast. The first speaker will be WED Executive Director Shawn Wenko. Wenko will take the stage at 8:15 a.m. and discuss Williston’s economic activity during 2020 and so far in 2021.
“We’ll start with a little bit of an overview of what we saw in the economic development office last year and what we are seeing in terms of the STAR Fund and activity coming through the door in 2021,” explained Wenko.
Following Wenko’s welcome, the conference will introduce its first panel featuring experts on the Williston Square project (formerly known as the Sloulin Field Redevelopment).
“We’ll have representatives from our engineering department, we’ll probably have an announcement from an existing business owner that will maybe talk about some of his plans going forward and we’ll talk with our public private partner, Cardon Global, about the square as well,” said Wenko.
Other featured guest speakers include James Leiman, Commissioner of the North Dakota Department of Commerce at 9:15 a.m., Williston Mayor Howard Klug and Williston City Administrator David Tuan at 12:30 p.m. and Anthony Dudas, Williston Airport Director at 2:30 p.m.
“The luncheon will begin at noon and it is free and open to the public,” said Wenko. “The Mayor will recap the past year and layout his vision for the future during his State of the City Address.”
Other panels throughout the day will cover topics such as unmanned aerial systems, a legislative update, Downtown Williston, housing and commercial construction trends, an update from the oil and gas industry plus economic development news from around the region.
Following the summit, WED will host the Williston Area Chamber of Commerce’s Business After Hours from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at Eleven Lounge and patio. There will be live music, giveaways and appetizers.
